BATH — Big, strong, rugged and athletic best describes the Oxford Hills Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team. Small, quick, fast and athletic best describes the Bath squad.
And in the end, BMS couldn’t quite contain the size and strength of Oxford Hills, in a 47-30 loss on Wednesday.
Bath trailed 20-13 at the half.
The second half was more of the same. This time BMS fell into a halfcourt 1-2-2 zone to try and make Oxford shoot the outside shot, which the Vikings did very well. Oxford made five 3- pointers in the second half to pull away with the 17 point victory.
In the losing effort, BMS was led by co-captain Tyreik Foster with 14 points, going 6-for-8 from free throw line. Fellow co-captain Parker Onorato put in 10 points with a five steals. BMS also had strong floor games by Max Reed and Dylan Maybee, who held their own in the post against the size and strength of Oxford Hills.
Up next for the Destroyers is Tripp Middle on Wednesday.
