BATH — With the start of winter snowfall, Bath officials have again issued a reminder to property owners and tenants that snow and ice must be cleared from sidewalks adjacent to their sites after each storm.
If clearing the sidewalk’s entire width is unreasonable, a path of at least 4 feet wide is acceptable, according to Scott Davis, the city’s codes enforcement officer.
The ordinance requires that snow be removed within four hours of the end of a storm during the day or, if the storm ends after dark, prior to 10 a.m. the next day. However, nighttime or Sunday snow removal is not required.
The ordinance also states that sidewalks must be kept passable by treatment with salt or sand, and that icicles be cleared from building rooflines that overhang pedestrian ways.
For more information, the ordinance is available on the City Clerk’s web page, www.cityofbath.com, or call 443-8334.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
