Wiscasset Town Manager Laurie Smith is leaving to accept the position of town manager in Kennebunkport.

Smith announced her resignation in a letter to the Select Board dated Dec. 10.

She said in her letter her last day as Wiscasset’s town manager will be Feb. 7.

In her letter, Smith praised the Select Board, pointing to their collaboration managing the town’s finances.

“I am pleased to be able to leave the community in a much more stable financial position,” she wrote.

She also thanked the staff and department heads, as well as volunteers, saying they had made her job easier.

Wiscasset has had a town manager type of government only since 2001, but in that time they’ve had seven managers. Smith was hired in the summer of 2010. She had previously served as Auburn’s town manager.
