USDA Rural Development officials said the agency’s Housing, Business and Cooperative and Community programs have invested a total of $462.6 million in Maine in the areas of homeownership, business assistance, energy and renewable energy development, water and waste water and community facilities.

The investment leveraged an additional $25.9 million from development agencies, state funding, local lenders and other sources.

Cumberland County received the highest level of investment: $104,962,024. Sagadahoc County has taken in $25,439,555, according to the agency.
