BATH
Police said Monday the 12-year-old Bath boy who admitted fabricating his report of nearly being abducted last week will not face charges.
Bath police issued a news release Wednesday stating that a 12-year-old boy had reported he was approached by a man driving a gray or green minivan on Middle Street who reached out and attempted to pull him into the van. The boy also provided a description of the alleged kidnapper.
By Thursday afternoon, police issued another news release to alert media that police had determined the report was a hoax. After a lengthy interview by investigators, the boy admitted he made the story up.
Bath police Lt. Robert Savary said Monday there will be no charges issued, adding that police have referred the boy and his family to avenues of help such as through school counseling. dmoore@timesrecord.com
