Friday, Dec. 20: The Scarborough High School Chorus presents a Multicultural Choral Concert with a special invitation to area senior citizens from 10-11 a.m. at SHS Auditorium. Admission is free.

Saturday, Dec. 21: Bean Supper, 5-6 p.m. at Peoples United Methodist Church, 310 Broadway, South Portland. Baked beans, casseroles, homemade pies and more. $8 each, $17 family.

Dec. 21: Join best-selling author and talk radio host, Howie Carr, for a signing of his new book, “Ratman,” at the Nonesuch Books in Biddeford Crossing from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 22: Longest Night Service, a service of healing and hope, will be held at 4 p.m. at Blue Point Congregational Church, 236 Pine Point Road, Scarborough. A simple meal of soup and bread will be served afterwards.

Dec. 22: A “Blue Christmas Service” takes place at 7 p.m. at Thornton Heights United Methodist Church, 100 Westbrook St., South Portland. Experience the Christmas message of the Messiah respecting those who face the struggles, loneliness and losses of current life situations.

Thursday, Dec. 26: Scarborough Public Library’s “Make Time @ the Library Day” takes place from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Throughout the day, the Youth Room will have Legos, a variety of board games and a “Maker Space” where the whole family can test their creative juices to make something by hand. And they’ll have lots of great books to read together or to check out. This “family time” event is for all ages and free to attend.

Jan. 8-29: Southern Maine Agency on Aging will be offering “Putting the Puzzle Together,” a four-part education series for people assisting older adult family and friends. It will be held at the SMAA office in Scarborough, on Wednesdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29, from 5:15-7:15 p.m. Sessions include information about older adult health, community resources, living options, problem solving, and legal issues. Participants should plan to attend all four sessions. The flyer can be downloaded at www.smaaa.org. There is a suggested donation of $50 and pre-registration is required.
