Holidays at the Gray Municipal Offices

On Dec. 24, Christmas Eve, the Gray Town Offices will be closing at noon, while on Dec. 25, Christmas Day, and Jan. 1, New Year’s Day, the offices are closed all day. The Gray Transfer Station is closed all day Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Nine Added to the Gray Honor Roll

The Town of Gray Honor Roll is intended to list people who, during the course of their lifetimes, demonstrated exceptional dedication, service or other contribution to the town of Gray.

At its Nov. 12, meeting, the Gray Town Council added nine notable residents to the roll. Newly approved Honor Roll members are: John Tappan Doughty, Sr (1898-1976), Sarah Jane Foster (1839-1868), Patricia Brown Mundy (1936-2004), Reuben Ruby (1798-1878), Kenneth H Sawyer (1908-2001), CDR Robert A. Schlegel, USN (1963-2001), Dawne Frances [Christie] Shisler (1940 – 1997), Leonora Whitney Sweetser (1866-1939 and Inez Scribner Yeaton (1872-1943).

New Committee

The town of Gray is seeking qualified individuals to serve on a volunteer group entitled the Commercial Plan Committee (CPC). The CPC’s mission is to create a townwide plan to function as a guide to direct future commercial development and applicable standards. The CPC is intended to be composed of between five and seven members including representatives from the CEDC, town boards, and Gray residents/business owners. Gray residents with relevant experience are encouraged to submit a Board and Committee Volunteer Application or contact Barbara Beckwith at 657-3339, ext. 102, by Dec. 27 to obtain an application form for the council’s consideration at its Jan. 7 meeting.

Calling All Kids

Kelley LaBrecque from WCSH Channel 6 will be at the Newbegin Gym in Gray on Monday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. to film the Zumba for Kids program. There will be interviews with some of the children and then a filming of a special session with instructor, Andrea Farrar and all of our kids from the community.

Gray Parks and Rec are looking for participants ages 4-11 to come in comfortable workout clothes and participate in a Free Zumba for Kids class. Please come give it a try and possibly get on television.

Parents can stay and watch, a waiver will be signed when you arrive allowing the program to be filmed and shown on Channel 6, which will be sometime in January.

Lobster Dip

On New Year’s Day, John Keller from Gray will head to Old Orchard Beach and take the plunge in the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean to benefit Special Olympics of Maine. This is his eighth Lobster Dip. He has been a Special Olympics coach in Raymond for 14 years, and enjoys coaching student-athletes with intellectual disabilities in soccer, basketball, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, bowling, swimming, and track and field. By sponsoring John for as little as $5, your donation will help assure that these athletes and other athletes around the state continue to have opportunities to train and compete in a variety of sports. Is Your Dog Legal?

On Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Gray Fire-Rescue Department, 125 Shaker Road, a Rabies and Dog Licensing Clinic will be held from 10 a.m.-noon.

The rabies vaccination for both cats and dogs is $10. Proof of previous vaccination is necessary to be effective for a three-year period or it will be considered a first-time vaccination effective for one year. Pets must be at least 12 weeks old for a rabies vaccination.

Licensing fees for spayed or neutered dogs are $6 and $11 for non-neutered or spayed dogs. All dogs must be licensed by Dec. 31 annually. A $25 late fee starts on Feb. 1.

Please note that the Gray Public Library will be closing early on the following days: Tuesday, Dec. 24 – close at 2 p.m.; Tuesday, Dec. 30 – close at 6 p.m. And it will be closed all day on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Wednesday, Jan. 1.

The librarians hope that you are looking forward to the unveiling of the new Gray Public Library addition in the new year.

During the renovation and construction process, Story Time is being held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the second floor of Pennell. There will be no Story Time on Dec. 20, 24 and 27.

Ice Tilts for Christmas

Crystal Lake Liberty Family Foundation Ice Fishing Derby is set for Saturday, Jan. 25, at 24 North Raymond Road in Gray. Organizers have thousands of dollars worth of derby and door prizes to give away as well as a chance to win a 2014 Ford Raptor from Casco Bay Ford. The derby hours are 6 a.m.-2 p.m. The ticket price is $15 and parking is $5 (free with pre-purchased ticket.) Along with the All-Ages Derby and Kid’s Derby there will be a Patriot Polar Plunge, Ice Shanty Competition and a Yellow Ribbon Tent.
