ATHENS — A Norridgewock man was arrested Thursday afternoon after threatening a stranger with a firearm outside the Athens Corner Store, police said.

Kerry Stevens, 57, of Norridgewock, was acting erratically inside the store, making lewd comments and saying that he had a gun, according to Dale Lancaster Deputy Chief of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

Outside the store, Stevens threatened a man, saying he had a gun, then pulling it out of his car to show him, said Lancaster. He wouldn’t identify the man Stevens talked to.

Police were sent to the store about 2 p.m. after a 911 call from the store about the man and his behavior, said Lancaster. When deputies arrived Stevens had left in a green Suzuki SUV, which they were eventually able to find on East Madison Road in East Madison, said Lancaster.

Stevens was charged with terrorizing with a firearm, a class C offense, said Lancaster.

An employee at the Athens Corner Store who answered the phone Thursday afternoon said she could not comment.

Stevens was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, where he was evaluated, released and transferred to the Somerset County Jail, said Lancaster.

A bail and booking officer at the jail said a $25,000 cash bail had been set for Stevens, and that he remained in custody Thursday night.
