KAREN MILLS, a Brunswick resident and former executive director of the U.S. Small Business Administration, gestures Friday while walking along Maine Street with 1st District U.S. Rep. and 2014 gubernatorial candidate Mike Michaud. Michaud and Mills spent an hour visiting with merchants and shoppers along Brunswick’s Maine Street, stopping first at Big Top Deli, then Gelato Fiasco and Morning Glory Natural Foods. In addition to the campaign stop, Michaud and Mills used the appearance to promote “shopping local” during the holiday season. “The Maine brand is defined by our small, family-owned businesses and the hardworking men and women who run them,” Michaud said. “We should do whatever we can to promote them and our state.” Mills added, “People appreciate something beautiful from a local shop that is made right here in Brunswick, or if not the state of Maine, hopefully at least made in the United States.”
