BANGOR (AP) — Police say the person found dead in a Bangor supermarket parking lot over the weekend appears to have been struck by a vehicle elsewhere in the city and dragged.
Officers found the victim near the entrance to a Hannaford store at about 8 p.m. Saturday.
The person’s name has not been made public.
Police said Sunday that it appears the victim was struck on Vermont Avenue about a half mile away, became trapped under the vehicle and was dragged.
Detective David Bushey tells WABI-TV the driver was unaware that someone was trapped under the car until they reached Hannaford.
The death remains under investigation but no charges are expected.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
