SOUTH BERWICK — A program on learning the background of old homes will be offered on Thursday, Jan. 16 from 7-8 p.m. at the Jewett-Eastman House in South Berwick.
The program will focus on learning about old homes ”“ who built it and when, what’s special about it, and how it can be sensitively updated ”“ to give homeowners a sense of confidence about owning and caring for their property.
Joseph Cornish, supervising preservation services manager at Historic New England, will discuss where to track down records of a home’s history, and what the surviving physical evidence of an old house has to say about its past.
This program is free to Historic New England members, and $5 for non-members. Registration is recommended. For more information, call 384-2454.
The Jewett-Eastman House is located at 37 Portland St., South Berwick, next to the Sarah Orne Jewett House Museum. It is one of 36 historic sites owned and operated by Historic New England, the oldest, largest and most comprehensive regional heritage organization in the country.
