SANFORD — Lace up those walking shoes and get at it ”“ that’s the word from Partners for a Healthier Community, which, along with Walmart, kicked off a new indoor walking program this morning.
The new walking program encourages people to more easily get moving ”“ especially during the winter months when walking outside is difficult due to snow and storms.
Helping support the program are Sanford-Springvale YMCA, Let’s Go! York County and Southern Maine Health Care.
The kick-off event includes refreshments, raffles for prizes ”“ including a membership to the Sanford-Springvale YMCA ”“ and educational materials about how walking can improve health.
Following the kick-off, Walmart will be open for walkers from 6-8 a.m. daily, said Southern Maine Health Care spokeswoman Leslie Roberts.
