SACO — The pursuit of hiring a superintendent for the upcoming Saco Municipal School Administrative Unit continues.

After a more than two-hour executive session regarding the consideration of a new superintendent Wednesday night, Saco MSAU Chairman Kevin Lafortune announced that there was nothing to report from the executive session, and the tentatively scheduled approval of an interim superintendent of schools would not happen.

The Saco MSAU Board, is working with the help of pro-bono facilitator Philip Blood to prepare for the July 1 inception of the Saco MSAU.

The forthcoming MSAU is the result of a November vote to withdraw from Regional School Unit 23, which covers Saco, Dayton and Old Orchard Beach.

The withdrawal agreement, which was approved with the November vote, states that decisions regarding which RSU 23 central office staff will be offered employment by the MSAU will be determined by March 1.

The school board voted last week to notify the RSU 23 board that it is aware of this deadline, and will begin working on the transitions of central office staff once an interim superintendent has been employed.

In other school related news, the Saco City Council Tuesday night approved a loan of up to $250,000 to the MSAU for startup costs. The MSAU will pay back any borrowed money in the upcoming budget year.
