WELLS — Vehicles weighing 3 tons or more must now seek an alternate route instead of using a bridge on the Tatnic Road.
On Tuesday, the Maine Department of Transportation Bridge Division inspected the bridge located on Tatnic Road, west of the Hilton Lane intersection that crosses a stream. As a result of the inspection, the DOT required the town to post a maximum load crossing of 3 tons.
The town is in the process of replacing the deteriorating bridge. The new bridge is expected to be in place by the end of February, according to Town Manager Jon Carter.
In the meantime, all vehicles with a gross weight of 3 tons ”“ 6,000 pounds ”“ or more should use an alternate route.
The town’s public safety and public works departments have developed alternative routing in their response to calls and plowing operations.
