NEW HIRES

• Michael Sears was hired as a research analyst for Market Decisions LLC, a market research firm in Portland.

Sears recently completed his Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Iowa. Most recently, he was a research associate at Communicus, where he assisted with survey-based advertising research.

• Sarah Holland, M.D., a plastic surgeon, joined the medical staff at Central Maine Medical Center.

She is practicing with Coastal Plastic Surgery in Topsham and Central Maine Plastic Surgery in Lewiston. Most recently, she practiced with York Plastic Surgery of York Hospital.

• Doug Beale was hired as general manager of Casco Systems, an engineering and system integration firm in Cumberland.

Beale is a professional engineer with significant experience in quality and process improvement, engineering and project management, power plant operations and mechanical systems.

PROMOTIONS

• Randy Klatt was promoted to manager of loss control services for MEMIC.

Klatt, of Brunswick, will be responsible for supervising a team of safety management specialists, who provide workplace safety advice and training to the company’s nearly 20,000 policyholders.

Klatt has worked for MEMIC for the past 10 years. He has more than 30 years of experience in the field of safety, including 14 years as an active-duty military pilot, six years in emergency medicine, and 10 years as an aviation safety instructor.

• Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution recently promoted three employees.

Allison Steele, assistant branch manager in Westbrook, was promoted to assistant vice president. Prior to joining the bank in 2009, Steele worked at the Savings Bank of Maine and Wells Fargo Financial. She lives in Saco.

Jean Cosgrove and Debra Houle were promoted to customer relationship associates in the Saco branch. Cosgrove and Houle live in Biddeford and previously worked at Hannaford.

• Dr. Samantha Langley-Turnbaugh was named the University of Southern Maine’s associate provost for graduate studies and research, scholarship and creative activity.

Langley-Turnbaugh, of Gorham, joined USM in 1996 as a faculty member in environmental science. She has served as associate vice president for research, scholarship and creative activity since 2009, and served as interim dean of graduate studies last year.

AWARDS and RECOGNITIONS

• The Mid-Coast Recreation Center in Rockport was named indoor tennis facility of the year. Director Seth Meyer was also named tournament director of the year for the second year in a row by the Maine Tennis Association.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS

• Emily Bugbee, a business information consultant at Anthem, joined the board of directors for Day One, Maine’s leading agency preventing and treating adolescent substance abuse and mental health issues.
