The regular season is coming to an end in basketball and girls’ hockey and it’s almost time for other sports to hold their big postseason meets.

Here’s a look at what happened last week and what’s to come:

Boys’ basketball

Brunswick and Mt. Ararat’s boys’ basketball teams are very much in the playoff mix.

The Dragons were fifth in the Eastern Class A Heal Points standings at 9-5 at press time after Friday’s 55-29 win at Lewiston. Brunswick was home against Skowhegan Tuesday, goes to Lawrence Friday, welcomes Oxford Hills Tuesday of next week and closes at Mt. Ararat Feb. 6.

The Eagles began the week sixth at 7-7 after a 73-60 home win over Lawrence Friday. Shyheim Ulrickson, as he usually does, led the way with 23 points. Mt. Ararat was at Cony Tuesday, goes to Bangor Friday, hosts Lewiston Tuesday of next week, then wraps it up against Brunswick Feb. 6.

In Western B, Morse was second to Greely at the start of the week after improving to 12-3 with wins last week at Medomak Valley (52-49) and at home over Erskine (55-27). The Shipbuilders went to Oceanside Tuesday, play at Maranacook next Tuesday, then close at home versus Lincoln Academy Feb. 6.

in Western D, Hyde sa fifth at 10-1 after wins at Rangeley (61-35), at home over Pine Tree Academy (65-21) and at home over Islesboro (62-25). After hosting North Yarmouth Academy Tuesday, the Phoenix welcomes Acadia Christian Friday and again Saturday, goes Valley Monday, hosts A. R. Gould Tuesday of next week, then closes at Waynflete Feb. 7.

Girls’ basketball

On the girls’ side, Brunswick began the week 9-5 and fifth in Eastern A after Friday’s 53-39 home win over Lewiston. The Dragons went to Skowhegan Tuesday, host Lawrence Friday, visit Oxford Hills Tuesday of next week and close at rival Mt. Ararat Feb. 6.

The Eagles were on the outside looking in at press time. Mt. Ararat was 11th in the region (only nine teams qualify for the playoffs) at 3-12 after a 52-29 loss at Lawrence Friday. The Eagles welcomed Cony Tuesday, go to Lewiston Tuesday of next week, then host Brunswick in the finale Feb. 6.

In Western B, Morse began the week 6-9 and clung to the 10th and final playoff spot after a 39-18 home win over Medomak Valley and a 44-29 triumph at Erskine. The Shipbuilders hosted Oceanside Tuesday, welcome Maranacook Tuesday of next week, then close at Lincoln Academy Feb. 6.

In Western D, Hyde fell to 1-11 and 14th in the standings (only 10 teams qualify) after losses to at Rangeley (60-19) and at home against Pine Tree Academy (66-26). The Phoenix was at NYA Tuesday, hosts Acadia Christian both Friday and Saturday, visits Valley Monday and closes at home against Waynflete Feb. 7.

Hockey

Brunswick’s boys’ hockey team began the week 7-4-1 and third in the Eastern Class A Heal Points standings after a 5-1 home win over Lawrence/Skowhegan Saturday. The Dragons went to Bangor Tuesday and Cony/Monmouth Thursday and play host to Edward Little Satudray.

Mt. Ararat/Lisbon was eighth in Eastern A (where only seven teams qualify for the playoffs) at 7-6 after a 4-2 win at Bonny Eagle Saturday. The Eagles go to Poland/Gray-New Gloucester Saturday and host Poland/GNG Monday.

On the girls’ side, Mt. Ararat is 3-12-1 and fifth in the East Region (where five teams make the postseason) after a 6-0 loss at two-time defending state champion Greely Saturday. After playing host to Winslow Monday, the Eagles close the regular season at Portland/Deering Saturday.

Brunswick was sixth at 2-13-1 after falling, 2-0, at Leavitt/Edward Little Saturday. The Dragons closed at Lewiston Wednesday, needing a win to make the playoffs.

Swimming

Brunswick’s girls’ swim team improved to 8-0 last weekend after defeating Wiscasset (68-23) and Hyde (83-0). The Dragons boys are 7-1 after a 66-15 win over Wiscasset and a 61-26 victory over Hyde.

Morse’s boys are 8-0 after a 126-16 win over Edward Little. The Shipbuilders girls improved to 4-2-1 after beating Edward Little, 103-63.

Mt. Ararat’s girls evened their record at 4-4 after beating Waterville. The Eagles boys lost and fell to 3-5. Scores weren’t available at press time.

Brunswick’s Alex Marc-Aurele won the boys’ 6-dive championship at Saturday’s South Portland Diving Invitational with a score of 102.70 points. Teammate Chris Roderick was second in the boys’ 11-dive competition with 232.05 points. Brunswick’s Olivia Dumont came in second in the girls’ 11-dive (233.00).

Wrestling

Mt. Ararat’s wrestling team beat Lincoln Academy (59-12), Morse (55-18) and Mt. Blue (42-33) Saturday. The Eagles wrap up the regular season Saturday with a home meet.

In addition to losing to Mt. Ararat, the Shipbuilders lost to Nokomis (48-18) and Mt. Blue (54-12) and beat Lincoln (30-21). Morse goes to Mt. Ararat Saturday.
