Haddock Dinner

On Saturday, Feb. 8, the Windham Knights of Columbus will serve a baked haddock dinner from 5-6 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Proceeds will benefit Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbor’s fuel assistance program. Dinner includes baked haddock, mashed potatoes, homemade coleslaw, vegetables, fresh rolls, coffee, tea, punch and homemade dessert buffet. A pizza alternative will be available. Cost is $9 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under, and a family maximum of $25. Tickets will be sold at the door.

American Legion Meeting Change

The Feb. 5 meeting of Windham American Legion and the informational Auxiliary meeting have been postponed to Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Windham Veterans Center. The schedule is the same; arrive around 4:30 p.m., supper at 5 p.m. followed by a brief Legion meeting before the presentation on a Women’s Auxiliary. There is no charge. Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors has received generous donations recently from Sandra and Edward Sawyer, Carl Kruger and “anonymous.” WNHN is a local, all-volunteer group that provides emergency fuel assistance to those in critical need. Winter Clothing for Free

The ladies down in the Clothes Closet tell us they have many winter clothing items which include outerwear. There is no charge. Project Graduation

A Project Graduation 2014 fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Karma Fair Trade, 570 Brighton Avenue, Portland. When you make a purchase tell Karen you’re supporting Project Graduation.

Valentine Pot Luck Luncheon

On Monday, Feb 10, at noon, a Valentine Pot Luck Luncheon will be held at the Lakes Region Senior Center, Sunset Ridge Golf Links, 771 Cumberland St. (River Road) Westbrook. LRSC is a drop-in center open Monday to Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop in to socialize, play a table game, craft or join the puzzle table.

Support the MSSPA

Please vote online to help the animals sheltered at the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals in Windham. Go to: https://www.bangor.com/Community-Support/Community-Matters-More.aspx for more information. Grants range from $1,000 to $5,000. For the MSSPA that could mean hay for one of our horses for half a year or the ability to sponsor one stall in the Support a Stall program.

Metal Detecting

On Saturday, Feb. 15, at 9 a.m., Ernie Mitchell of Windham Historical Society will present a program at the library and will discuss how lost history can be found with a metal detector. This is a fascinating look at artifacts from the time of King Philip’s War and the story of their discovery. Refreshments follow the program, which concludes with a brief membership meeting. VFW Meets

Windham VFW Post 10643 will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Windham Veterans Center. Supper is at 5 p.m. and the meeting begins at 6 p.m.

Help the Food Pantry

During this cold and flu season, the Windham Food Pantry would greatly appreciate any donations of facial tissue, toilet paper or paper towels along with shampoo, dish detergent and laundry detergent. Call 892-1931 for more information.

Medicare Counsel

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer a Medicare seminar and counseling for the Lakes Region at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. A “Welcome to Medicare” seminar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the Medicare seminar, there will be one-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates available from 9 a.m. to noon.

The seminar and counseling are intended to help you sort through your Medicare options, answer questions and to help you enroll. Counseling on tax and rent rebate, food stamps, and fuel assistance can be arranged. Call the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to register for an upcoming seminar or to make a one-on-one appointment with a Medicare Advocate at 396-6500 or 1-800-427-7411. Ask about the other opportunities for these appointments. Seminar walk-ins can usually be accommodated. Windham Land Trust
