The University of Southern Maine will host its annual Job Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 in the Sullivan Gym on the Portland campus. It is a free event open to all students, alumni and the public. The fair offers students and the public the opportunity to meet and network with potential employers in an informal setting. The Saco Coin and Currency Club will meet Wednesday, Feb. 12. Meetings are the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the Saco City Hall conference room at 7 p.m.
A veterans’ service officer from the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services will be available Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Saco City Hall from 9-11 a.m. This service is weather permitting, call first at 324-1839.
Thursday, Feb. 13
University College will host an information session Thursday, Feb. 13 from 4-5 p.m. at 110 Main St., Saco Island. It will be aired over videoconferencing through the University of Maine at Machias, where faculty and staff will present an overview of their online baccalaureate programs in psychology and community studies, college studies, and the Special Education teacher certification. Presenters will discuss curriculum, admissions and career opportunities. Many of the courses may be taken through an off-campus center like University College in Saco. Saturday, Feb. 15
A Valentine’s Dinner and Dance will be held from 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Waterboro Grange Hall, 31 West Road, So. Waterboro. Woody’s Sports Grille will cater a pasta buffet, serving from 6:10-6:45 p.m. DJ Michael C. will provide the music. The event will be BYOB, with no one under 21 admitted. Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased at Woodsome’s Feeds & Needs and Woody’s Sports Grille. Proceeds benefit the Waterborough Historical Society, which works to preserve Waterboro’s past for the future. For more information, call 247-5926.
The annual Father Daughter Dance at Sanford Springvale YMCA is set for 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15. All K-8 girls are invited to attend this event with their dads, uncles, brothers, grandfathers or any other male figure in their life for a glamorous and fun evening out. There will be a DJ and games. Tickets are $15 per couple or $21 for Dad plus two or more. Contact the YMCA at 324-4942 for more information.
A Sweetheart Dinner Dance will be hosted by the Dorcas Society of Hollis and Buxton on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Bar Mills Parish House on Route 4 in Buxton. A lasagna dinner will be served from 5-6:30 p.m., and patrons may stay to enjoy an evening of line dancing until 9 p.m. Lessons will be included. The cost for the evening will be $10. Door prizes will be given out as well. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Dorcas Society scholarship and donations to local charities. LaDawn Therapeutic Riding Center is hosting a Valentine Pony Ride fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 995 Goodwin Mills Road (Route 35 near Route 5 intersection) in Dayton from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy a ride on a costumed horse in the indoor arena for $10. Treat your Valentine to the sixth annual elegant brunch at Parsonsfield Seminary, 504 North Road (Route 160), Parsonsfield, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 15, with a snow date of Feb. 16. The Old Orchard Beach Community Food Pantry is hosting a fundraiser at Jumpin’ Jakes on Saco Avenue on Feb. 16 from 2-5 p.m. There will be a silent auction, raffles, entertainment and food. The cost is $20.
The Alfred and Limerick American Legion posts are teaming up to offer their first Ice Fishing Derby Feb. 16 on Little Ossipee Pond in East Waterboro. There are prizes for both adult and children’s divisions. Tickets, derby rules brochures and more may be picked up at: Lakeside Market, 411 Sokokis Trail, East Waterboro; Limerick Village Variety, Main Street, Limerick; Merrill’s Country Store, Sokokis Trail, North Waterboro; and Route 5 Little Ossipee Pond boat launch from 7-9 a.m. on derby day.
