SANFORD — Noel G. Letourneau, 89, of Sanford, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.

He was born in Sanford on Dec. 25, 1924, a son of the late Oliver and Angelina (Charette) Letourneau.

A graduate of Sanford High School, he then served his country during World War II in the United States Navy.

He retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard after many years of service with the company. A communicant of Holy Family Parish, he was also a 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the Sanford Elk’s Lodge, the VFW and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Aline Letourneau; two sons, Rene and Gerry Letourneau; one grandson, Christopher Moses; and two stepsons, Donald and Robert Bernier.

He is survived by: his second wife, Hope (Bernier) Letourneau of Sanford; daughters, Nancy Moses and her husband Brian of Shapleigh and Pauline Letourneau of Sanford; son, Paul Letourneau of Lincoln; daughter-in-law, Ruth Bettinger of Sanford; stepsons, Richard Bernier of Tucson, Ariz., Raymond Bernier Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz., Michael Bernier and Mark Bernier, both of Sanford; stepdaughters, Linda Chesley of Sanford and Donna Junville of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford. Burial will be in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.
