LEWISTON — The Lawrence High School boys basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter, but fell short, losing to Lewiston, 44-40 in the Eastern Class A preliminary round on Wednesday.

No. 8 Lewiston, now 9-10, will face top seed Hampden (18-0) in the quarterfinals on Saturday at the Augusta Civic Center. No. 9 Lawrence ends the season at 8-11.

Isaiah Harris led Lewiston with 12 points, while Carlos Gonzalez scored 11 for the Blue Devils.

Dustin Simpson-Bragg paced Lawrence with 11 points. Seth Powers added 10 points for the Bulldogs.

OLD TOWN 73, WATERVILLE 44: Eric Hoogterp scored 24 points to lead the Coyotes to the Eastern Class B win in Old Town.

No. 6 Old Town (14-5) will face No. 3 Mt. Desert Island in the regional quarterfinal on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. No. 11 Waterville ends the season at 11-8.

Old Town shot very well, Waterville coach Wade Morrill said, and had impressive depth.

“Every kid they brought in scored. Their depth kind of wore us down,” Morrill said.

Scott Smart scored 13 points off the bench for Old Town.

Justin Jabar had 15 points and seven rebounds for Waterville. Owen Brown added 11 points and 7 boards for the Panthers, while Chris Hale scored 10 points.

BOYS HOCKEY

WINSLOW 6, HAMPDEN 3: Alex Berard had three goals to lead Winslow to a win over Hampden at Sukee Arena in Winslow.

Jacob Grenier, Jacob Trask and Jacob Trask each added a goal for Winslow (9-8).

Dylan Cray, Mike Ward and Riley Eastman each scored for Hampden (6-8-2).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

UMA 89, NHTI 75: Brandon Rogers scored 24 points, 11 on free throws, as the University of Maine at Augusta defeated New Hampshire Technical Institute in Yankee Small College Conference men’s basketball action in Augusta.

Jesse Smith added 21 points for the Moose (5-21, 5-11) while Keith Chesley chipped in with 20, 10 on free throws. UMA was 25-32 from the line for the game.

NHTI (13-14, 9-4) was led by Curtis Williams with 22 points and Phil Smith and Ethan Rutledge with 14 apiece.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

MAINE 60, HARTFORD 56: Liz Wood and Ashleigh Roberst scored 13 points apiece to lead the Black Bears to the America East Conference win in West Hartford, Conn. Sophie Weckstrom added 10 points for Maine (14-11, 8-4) while Deanna Maza scored 17 for Hartford (9-16, 6-5).

UMA 89, NHTI 68: Arreonte Lee scored 32 points to lead the Moose to the YSCC win in Augusta.

Lee also had 12 rebounds. Richmond graduate Jamie Plummer added 22 points,11 rebounds and eight assists for UMA (13-9, 10-5). Monmouth graduate Jenn Lola chipped in with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

NHTI (12-15, 5-8) was led by Danielle Kimball with 32 points, including eight 3-pointers.
