MACHIASPORT — The Maine Department of Corrections says a prisoner who walked away from a minimum security prison is back in custody.
Officials say 46-year-old John Phillip Michaud was found in Lewiston on Thursday, less than 24 hours after disappearing from the Downeast Correctional Facility.
For the time being, he’s being held at the Androscoggin County Jail.
Michaud was serving time for multiple counts of burglary and theft. He was transferred to the minimum security prison in Machiasport in September and was due to be released next year from the Downeast Correctional Facility.
