The Nor’Easters synchronized skating teams earned two top-10 finishes at the U.S. Eastern Sectional championships Jan. 30 through Feb. 1 in Hershey, Pa.

The open juvenile team, composed of 10 skaters ages 12 to 18, finished in eighth place. Team members were Mira D’Amato of Portland; Leah Israel of Cape Elizabeth; Elizabeth Stewart, Ava Demer, Caroline Samaras and Elanor West of Falmouth; Sophie Lawsure and Haley Rice of Scarborough; Erin Holmes of Cumberland; and Cecilia Kusturin of Gorham.

The open adult team placed 10th, with 12 skaters ages 25 to 61. The group includes Carrie McCormick of Freeport; Nina Sylvia of West Bath; Susan Black of Windham; Kathy Cain of Oxford; Heidi Coffin of Brunswick; Chelsea Ferk of Biddeford; Sue Gagne of Lewiston; Susan Greenwood of Gorham; Sarah Lawsure of Scarborough; Meghan O’Brien of Gray; and Caroline Paras and Lori Johnson of Portland. 

The Dickie LeMont Ice Fishing Derby was hosted by the Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association on Feb. 10. Winners in the adult classes were Dave Chubuck (bass, 6.82 pounds), Sara Rice (pickerel, 3.24 pounds), Dottie Moore (trout, 2.31 pounds), Gene York (white perch, 0.79 pounds), Steve Bodge (yellow perch, 0.69 pounds) and Pat Wolfe (crappie, 1.58 pounds). Youth winners were Brady Wallace (bass, 6.56 pounds), Libbi Wallace (pickerel, 3.54 pounds), Sam Merrill (trout, 3.10 pounds), Jason Rowan (white perch, 0.84 pounds), Katie Shaw (yellow perch, 0.86 pounds), and Zachary Thomas (crappie, 1.49 pounds).
