The Camden International Film Festival will launch its Aging in Maine documentary screening tour Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the D.P. Corbett Room at the University of Maine in Orono. The event will be presented in partnership with the UMaine Center on Aging.
The tour is a new statewide effort that will bring award-winning documentary films and discussions to various Maine communities through July 10.
The documentaries will be presented in Portland on April 2 at 6 p.m. at the Portland Museum of Art, in partnership with MaineHealth, Maine Medical Center’s Geriatric Center, the Alzheimer’s Association: Maine Chapter, and Southern Maine Area Agency on Aging.
The tour is the second part of the festival’s inaugural Engagement Summit: Aging in Maine, which was designed to connect Maine-based nonprofit leaders with documentary films and filmmakers, said Ben Fowlie, festival executive director. The goal is to help develop community-based, social action campaigns that will engage audiences in thoughtful, intergenerational talks about aging and dementia-related illnesses.
Films screened as part of the tour will include the festival’s 2013 Harrell Award for Best Documentary, “The Genius of Marian,” a selection of short films called Golden Shorts and other aging-related films, including “Age of Champions” and “Last Dreams,” which also received a special jury mention at last year’s festival.
Nine additional screenings are scheduled, including Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Strand Theatre in Rockland; March 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the Colonial Theatre in Belfast; and March 23 at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta.
