Galvin sparks offense as Colby splits baseball doubleheader in Florida

Kevin Galvin drove in five runs, three on a bases-loaded triple, to help Colby beat North Central 8-7 in the second game of a baseball doubleheader at Auburndale, Fla., on Monday.

The Cardinals won the opener, 3-2.

Galvin had a two-run single in the first inning of Colby’s win, and a three-run triple during the Mules’ six-run third. Galvin also scored during the decisive inning.

In the first game, Colby (3-1) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth on RBI singles by Galvin and Jason Buco, but the Cardinals rallied for the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice.

SOFTBALL: Colby’s Emily Schatz went a combined 7 for 8 with four runs scored and four runs driven in as the Mules (2-3) took a 12-8 victory over St. Catherine’s (0-3) in the first game but lost to Lawrence (3-3) in the second game, 8-4, at Clermont, Fla.

Schatz was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBI in the victory. Katie McLaughlin added two hits, two runs and two RBI.

Brianne Wheeler smacked a pair of doubles, and Meaghan Lewia, Erica Pulford and Robin Spofford all scored twice.
