Verizon Wireless said it will fill 42 full-time retail, sales and customer service positions in Maine as part of an effort to add 330 workers throughout New England.

Verizon Wireless, which employs more than 350 people in Maine and 2,500 throughout New England, said the positions offer “competitive salaries and benefits,” including health care coverage that begins on the first day of employment, and participation in the company’s 401(k) program with a dollar-for-dollar match of up to 6 percent of an employee’s salary contribution.

The company also offers employees tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance and bonuses.

The company said starting salaries for retail positions are in the mid-$30,000 range, which includes commission. The customer service positions start in the high-$20,000 range.

Verizon Wireless said the hiring effort was driven by normal promotion and attrition, but also by the need for expansion to help fuel company growth.

“Our employees are at the core of who we are, and we know Maine offers a pool of top-quality, highly skilled talent,” said Christine Berberich, New England region president for Verizon Wireless. “Verizon Wireless is a growing company in an exciting industry, and we are hiring here in Maine to ensure we continue to deliver the outstanding experience our customers expect.”

The company said it actively recruits military veterans.

Verizon Wireless completed $245 million in wireless network enhancements across New England in 2013, increasing the company’s regional network investment to $3.6 billion since its inception in 2000.

The company declined to provide the number of subscribers it serves in Maine. It has about 100 million wireless customers nationwide.
