Cape students present spring concert
On Wednesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. the fifth and sixth grade band and chorus at Cape Elizabeth Middle School will present their annual spring concert in the gym at the high school. Call 799-8176 for more information.
‘Dancing with the Community’ fundraiser set
On Saturday, April 5, at 6 p.m. the South Portland Parks and Recreation Department will host a dinner and dancing “Dancing with the Community” benefit at the American Legion Hall in Westbrook, 300 Conant St. Tickets are $40 per person and must be reserved in advance. The dance teams competing are Dori Flynn and David Marcotte, from Curves in Westbrook, Marcelle Pick and Laurence Miller from Women to Women, Sheila Pinette and John Davis from the Maine Center for Disease Control and Raisa Pelletier and Sergei Slussky from Raisa’s Sewing and Accessories. All proceeds will benefit the senior fitness classes at the South Portland Community Center.
Birds, movie at Scarborough library

“Wind Over Wings: Birds of Prey” at the Scarborough Middle School Cafeteria. Wind Over Wings is a nonprofit, wildlife educational center. Join the Friends of the Scarborough Library and learn more about the center and meet some of its special birds of prey, including a great horned owl, a raven, a falcon and a golden eagle. Library hosting special events
On Saturday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m., the Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth will host Danny Lion in concert. Lion, a.k.a. Dan Flannery, is an educator and entertainer, whose first solo CD dropped this past fall. He also recorded four award-winning CDs for children with his brother, Mike, as The Flannery Brothers.
Then, on Tuesday, April 8, at 1 p.m. the library will welcome back
David Weiss, who will present a writing and meditation workshop for adults, entitled “Learning to Sing our Spirit Song.”
Weiss, a Cape resident, has taught poetry to Tibetan Buddhist monks at Sera Jhy Monastic University in South India and is also a student of the Japanese bamboo flute – the shakuhuachi.
He will lead participants through music, quietness, guided imagery and poetry, helping them to give voice to their inner song as they write a brief poem based on their own experience.

Maine State Ballet presents ‘Cinderella’
One of the world’s most beloved fairy tales comes to life in Falmouth as the Maine State Ballet presents Cinderella through April 13.
Local cast members include Faith Buckley, Lily Mackenzie, Alexandria Weissbach, and Katarina Weissbach, all of Cape Elizabeth; Nick Anderson, Elizabeth Dragoni, Laura Moskevich, Diane Saito and Maiki Saito, all of Scarborough; and Frederick Bernier, James Herrera, Christine Marshall and Brooke Sowerby, all of South Portland.
The enchanting performance will captivate audiences of all ages as 50 dancers recreate the life of a mistreated girl who, thanks to her fairy godmother, steps into a world of beauty, wonder and love when she meets her prince. The gorgeous choreography by artistic director and former New York City Ballet member Linda MacArthur Miele combined with the fanciful costumes and brilliant sets of Maine State Ballet’s Theater make this performance truly magical.
The shows run on Friday evenings at 6 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Sundays at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. beginning Friday, March 28, and ending Sunday, April 13. All shows will take place at the Maine State Ballet Theater located at 348 U.S. Route 1, Falmouth.

Easter Bunny breakfast at Camp Ketcha
On Saturday, April 5, from 7:30-9:30 a.m., Camp Ketcha in Scarborough will host an Easter Bunny breakfast. The cost is $10 per person, but children under 2 are free.
During the event, children will have the opportunity to sit with the Easter Bunny and take pictures. Following breakfast children can also go outside for an ongoing Easter egg hunt. Breakfast will consist of fresh fruit, bagels, muffins, donuts, juice and coffee.
