Saturday, April 12: From 9 a.m.-noon, South Portland Public Library hosts a community shredding day sponsored by Bath Savings Institution. Do you have sensitive documents that you no longer need? Bring them to the parking lot of the Main location of the South Portland Public Library, located at 482 Broadway, South Portland, for safe, confidential shredding, provided by Without a Trace Mobile Shredding. (Personal shredding only, please.) Free to the public.

April 12: South Portland Public Library is holding an After Hours Concert with The ProfTones from 7-8:30 p.m. The ProfTones, a talented local cover band with an eclectic set list and an interesting back story. Four of the five band members are professors at local colleges by day and rockers by night. The concert will be held at the library’s main location at 482 Broadway, South Portland. Come shake, rattle and roll off your cabin fever after our regular day of business comes to an end, and enjoy a musical buffet of tunes written and recorded by the likes of The Grateful Dead, Johnny Cash, Wilson Pickett, Warren Zevon, The Old Crow Medicine Show, and Phish.

Wednesday, April 16: Osewantha Garden Club of South Portland will meet at 1 p.m. at the South Portland Community Center, Nelson Road. A business meeting will be followed by a program of making baskets to add color to doorsteps. Osewantha will supply the soil and members can bring the baskets, moss to line the baskets, pansies, small daffodils, and other spring flowers for colorful displays. Osewantha hopes to have pussy willows for your design.

Thursday, April 17: Scarborough Garden Club monthly meeting takes place at 12:30 p.m. at The Hillcrest Community Center, 108 Hillcrest Ave. Program: “Tussie-Mussies and Potpourri.” Guest Speaker: Elaine Crandall of The Old Parsonage Antique Shop in Hebron, N.H. For more information, call 510-1371.

April 17: Maritime historian and author George Daughan will give a talk and sign copies of his new book, “The Shining Sea,” in the Learning Commons, Southern Maine Community College Campus Center, 86 Fort Road, South Portland, from noon-1:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

April 18-May 3: Lyric Music Theater on Sawyer Street in South Portland hosts “Young Frankenstein, the Musical” on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. The hilarious musical comedy is a wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on Mel Brooks’ film. The story follows young Dr. Frankenstein (that’s Fronkensteen) as he attempts to bring a corpse to life, but not without scary and hilarious complications. Don’t miss the kooky cast of characters delivering all your favorite moments from the classic film. With eye-popping special effects on all new show-stopping numbers including, “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” you’ll have a monstrously good time. Saturday, April 19: Join local Maine Author Helen Peppe from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. as she signs copies of her new memoir, “Pigs Can’t Swim,” at Nonesuch Books Mill Creek, South Portland.

April 19: Scarborough Lions Club holds its Spring Craft Fair at 273 Gorham Road, Scarborough, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Public invited.

April 19: Help clean up South Portland’s trails, shorelines, beaches and parks. Register at Mill Creek Park between 8:30-11 a.m. and receive bags and gloves for projects around the city.
