OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Peter Flaherty, Carol Marcotte and Stuart Hogan have been elected to the Regional School Unit 23 board.
The three will begin serving on July 1, when Dayton and Saco are officially out of RSU 23, leaving Old Orchard Beach the only municipality in the school district. In the interim, they will serve as advisors to the two current local RSU 23 board members, Gary Curtis and Jerome Plante.
Five candidates ran for the three seats at Tuesday’s election. Flaherty received 215 votes, Marcotte 170 votes, Hogan 157 votes, David Boudreau 100 votes and Kenneth Spinney II received 45 votes.
Flaherty will serve a three-year term, Marcotte a two-year term and Hogan a one-year term.
Flaherty is a retired school teacher and school administrator who worked in the Saco schools. Marcotte is an associate lecturer at the University of New England. She is a retired public educator, having served in the positions of director of curriculum, principal and teacher. Hogan works for Brady Screenprint and Embroidery and is a former Old Orchard Beach High School track coach.
Future RSU 23 board elections will be held in November, with all candidates serving three-year terms.
