Biddeford Tigers
Coach/years: Keith LeBlanc, third year
Last year’s record: 7-11, lost in Western Class A quarterfinals
Key returners: Corey Brown, Corey Creeger, Casey Twomey, Nate Huot
Key losses: Nine seniors
Coach’s outlook: Biddeford lost nine seniors from last year’s team, so there will be many opportunities for younger players to step up and fill spots. The team will rely on three-year starter Corey Brown behind the plate for leadership. Huot will lead the pitching staff along with Twomey, Creeger, and Kevin Descoteaux. Young players Kerry Crepeau and Dominick Day will also contribute. The team will need pitching to have a consistent season to go deep in the playoffs.
Kennebunk Rams
Coach/years: Brian Dill, 29th year
Last year’s results: 6-10, missed playoffs
Key returners: Nick Emmons, Caleb Burpee, Nate Gilbert, Robbie Burns, Ben Wilson, Kip Richard, Ben Lary, Jack Lapham, Alex Gaulkin
Key newcomers: Eric Aiken, Jake Mastroangelo, Richie Platt, Donnie Dubois, Ryan Coughlan
Coach’s outlook: With nine returning players, including three pitchers that saw varsity time, we should be quite competitive. We have a great opportunity to make the playoffs. Much will depend on getting through the early part of our schedule.
Massabesic Mustangs
Coach/years: Jeff Cessario, fifth year
Last year’s results: 5-11, missed playoffs
Key returners: Sean Adams, Caleb Campbell, Weston Bergeron, Dawson Renaud
Key Losses: Casey Nava, Brian Wardwell
Coach’s outlook: We are young, but we should be competitive.
Old Orchard Beach Seagulls
Coach/years: Keil Martin, third Year
Last year’s results: 6-10, lost in Western Class C quarterfinals
Key returners: Kendal Tatsak, Hunter Boutot, Brendan Kaliher
Key newcomers: Brendan Harlan
Key losses: Anthony Langella, Quincy Grace, Matt Parks, Jimmy Strohm, Austin Neadeau, Sean McDermott, Devin Trumpler, Devin Doucette.
Coach’s outlook: The Seagulls return to the diamond in 2014 with a new look following the graduation of several key senior players. What the team lacks in experience they make up for with their hardworking, positive attitudes, with a willingness to learn. The team looks for leadership from senior infielders Kendal Tatsak, Brendan Harlan and Brendan Kaliher. Utility specialist Hunter Boutot will also play a large role in OOB’s offense and defense.
Sanford Spartans
Coach/years: Mark Boissonneault, 15th year
Last year’s results: 5-11, missed playoffs
Key returners: Tyler Flayhan, Jimmy Parks, Jed Scott, Slade Watson, Brandon Wambolt
Key newcomers: Matt Toth, Chase Eldredge, Eddie Michetti
Key losses: Ryan Camire, Ethan Gouin, Abbott MacKay, Cody Mooney
Coach’s outlook: Sanford is looking to keep improving. We lost many close ball games last year because of lack of situational hitting. We are looking to improve on our offense. Defensively, Sanford should be solid, with a mixture of young players and veterans. Flayhan and Wambolt should anchor the pitching duties. Both have varsity experience, with several young players filling in when needed.
Thornton Academy Golden Trojans
Coach/years: Ray Petit, fourth year
Last year’s results: 9-9, lost in Western Class A quarterfinals
Key returners: Alex Fallon, Drew Gelinas, Drew Lavigne, Matt Rutherford, Evan Wright, Ben Lambert, Ryder Kenney
Key newcomers: Evan Balzano, Brandon Hall
Key loss: Jeff Gelinas
Coach’s outlook: The Golden Trojans must fill the void on the mound left by Jeff Gelinas, but have experienced starters in Drew Gelinas and Matt Rutherford to take his place. Fallon and Lavigne provide plenty of varsity experience and will pace the offense.
Wells Warriors
Coach/years: Todd Day, second year
Last year’s results: 3-13, missed playoffs
Key returners: Connor Pease, Bennie McMinnis, Dan Quint, Charlie Bell, Nick Ramsey
Key newcomers: Andrew Skeats, Cody Cousins, Tim Barnard, Shawn Ramsey
Key losses: Five seniors
Coach’s outlook: Wells will have a nice mix of veterans and youth, and will look to improve on last season. Senior Bennie McMinnis is the ace of the staff and suffered hard luck on the mound last season, but is one of the best pitchers in the league. Connor Pease, sophomore Charlie Bell and junior Dan Quint are catalysts on offense. How rapidly the newcomers develop will determine the early success of this team.
