The Harness Horse Youth Foundation is adding four one-day educational horsemanship programs to its summer schedule.
On June 30, July 1 and July 3, programs will be held at the Cumberland fairgrounds, while on July 2, a program has been added in Cornish. Designed for youth age 11 and up, these hands-on programs teach the basics of grooming conformation and equipment. Each participant also gets the opportunity to drive a horse accompanied by a licensed driver or trainer.
In addition, on July 4, HHYF will visit Scarborough Downs with post parades being led by the foundation’s Trottingbred Sweet Karen, and will provide an opportunity to meet both Sweet Karen and Royal Attire on the tarmac during the late afternoon race card.
Applications and compete details for these programs, which typically run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., are located at www.hhyf.org/schedule-applications.
The deadline to apply for these programs is May 15.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
