WATERBORO — Abel Violette Sr., 85, of Waterboro, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Newton Center in Sanford.

He was born in Edmunston, New Brunswick, Canada on Feb. 10, 1929, a son of the late Joseph and Zenaide (Sirois) Violette.

On Aug. 6, 1949, he married Eleanor Foster in Waterboro.

For many years, he was employed as a logger with Eon Logging in Biddeford and then with Pattern Leather in Waterboro. When he retired, he had been employed by Salem Suede in Massachusetts.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, dirt bikes and motorcyles.

He was preceded in death by: three brothers, Joseph, Lionel and Robert; and one sister, Rita.

He is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Eleanor Violette of Waterboro; two sons, Abel “Joe” Violette Jr. and Paula of Waterboro, Philip Violette and Joyce of Shapleigh; four grandchildren, Steve Violette, Wendy Violette Glaude, Stacey Violette Moulton, Sabrina Violette Gurskis; five great-grandchildren, Makayla Moulton, Kelsie Moulton, Keegan Glaude, Jayden Glaude and Caleb Gurskis; and one sister, Jean Soucie of Enfield, Conn.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 24 at 2 p.m. at the Pine Grove South Cemetery in Waterboro. Arrangements are under direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale. Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
