HAMPDEN — Brad Larson tossed a one-hitter for eight innings and Brunswick High School went on to edge Hampden Academy, 3-1 in KVAC baseball play on Monday.
The Dragons improved to 2-0 and are scheduled to host Brewer on Wednesday.
Larson struck out eight and walked two, while losing pitcher Matt Martin went seven innings and allowed two hits with 12 strikeouts and three walks.
There were no repeat hitters or extra base hits
“It was a terrifically pitched game on both sides,” said Brunswick coach Luke Potter. “Ryan Brescia played an amazing third base for Brunswick with six putouts. Brady Larson’s performance was truly remarkable and deserving of praise. A true baseball game.”
In Western Maine Conference play on Monday, Dan Quint had two singles, three steals and scored all three runs as Wells toppled Freeport.
Cody Cousins picked up the mound win as he tossed a four-hitter with six strikeouts.
Peter LaMagna pitched a complete-game, six-hitter with three walks and six strikeouts.
Bennett Hight had two hits in the loss.
Freeport (0-1) goes to Yarmouth on Wednesday.
