FREEPORT — Meg Young went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, and Nodine Webster pitched a five-inning complete game as Wells beat Freeport 16-4 in a Western Maine Conference softball game on Monday.
Leading 5-1, Wells (2-0) opened things up with a nine-run fourth inning that was highlighted by Christina LeBlanc’s three-run home run.
Jordan Agger, Sophie Lamb and LeBlanc all had three hits for the Warriors, while Stephanie Woods and Ali Duplisea each had two hits apiece.
The Falcons (0-1) had five hits off Webster.
South Portland 4, Thornton Academy 3
SOUTH PORTLAND — South Portland scored twice in the bottom half of the sixth inning to overcome a one-run deficit and pip Thornton Academy in an SMAA softball game on Monday afternoon.
The Red Riots (1-1) had a 2-0 lead after three, but Thornton (1-1) scored once in the fourth when Erin Brayden’s triple scored Bailey Tremblay, and then twice in the sixth thanks to a pair of South Portland errors to take a 3-2 lead. But two Golden Trojans errors allowed the hosts to score a pair of unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning and take back the lead. Thornton had the tying run on third with two outs in the seventh, but Brooke Cross popped out to end it.
Tremblay went the distance on the mound for Thornton, allowing five hits two walks and no earned runs while striking out four. Olivia Indorf got the win for the Red Riots, allowing one earned run on two hits while walking six and striking out 11.

Sacopee Valley 14, Old Orchard Beach 3
OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Sacopee Valley scored all of its runs in the final four innings to take an 11-run victory over Old Orchard Beach in a Western Maine Conference game on Monday afternoon.
The Seagulls (1-1) made six errors, leading to eight Sacopee Valley (1-0) runs. OOB managed just four hits, while Sacopee pounded out 13.
Boys Tennis
Thornton Academy 5, Sanford 0
SACO — Victor Menezes won the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-2 against Jake Arsenault as Thornton Academy swept Sanford in an SMAA season-opener Monday afternoon.
David Parran beat Calvin Eisenhauer 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles, while Jared Waterhouse beat Brian Dubois 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
The Golden Trojans also won is straight sets in both doubles matches: Will Caras and Eric Gooch topped Same Whitten and Quinn Severes 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, while Dylan Gooch and Simon Belliveau took a 6-0, 6-0 win against Noah Miller and Kyle Parks-Damor.

Thornton Academy 5, Sanford 0
SANFORD — Freshman Eva Sachs won her high school debut 6-2, 6-1 against Kathryn Doiron in the No. 1 singles to help Thornton Academy to a sweep of Sanford in an SMAA season-opener Monday afternoon.
Alyssa DeMario topped Misa Mai 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Grace Pickering downed Paige Tranchemontagne 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
In the No. 1 doubles, Katie Senecha and Ashley Houp beat Lauren MacPherson and Ciara Negron 6-4, 6-3, while at No. 2 doubles, Emily Harris and Emily Ribaudo won 6-2, 6-1 against Lauren Vachon and Alexandra Nichols.
Boys Lacrosse
Scarborough 7, Thornton Academy 6 (OT)
SCARBOROUGH — Brendon Smith scored with 2:33 remaining in the second overtime as Scarborough got past Thornton Academy in an SMAA boys lacrosse game on Monday.
Isaac Sinclair had scored for the Golden Trojans (2-1) with 2:54 to play to tie the game at 6-6 and send it into extra time. Christian Neelon had a game-high four goals for the Red Storm (3-0).
Girls Lacrosse
Wells 10, Fryeburg Academy 8
FRYEBURG — Amanda Deshaies scored four goals and added one assist to lead Wells to a two-goal victory over Fryeburg Academy in a Western Maine Conference game on Monday.
Hailey Smith and Jasmine Loukola also had three goals and one assist apiece for the Warriors (1-0), which got two assists from Nicki Moody and strong defensive games from Sydney Robinson and Sage Sierra.
Alexandra Fraize scored a game-high five goals for Fryeburg (0-2).
Outdoor Track and Field
HIRAM — Old Orchard Beach competed in a meet with Sacopee Valley, Dirigo, Mountain Valley and Seacoast Christian on Monday.
OOB’s Eric Hogan took first in the boys 100- and 200-meter dashes, and was also part of the Seagulls’ first-place 4×100-meter relay team with Brendan Harlan, Andrew Graves and Zach Hirst.
Graves also finished third in the high jump and fifth in the long jump, while Hirst was third in the triple jump and Connor Rice was fifth in the 3,200-meter race.
On the girls’ side, Brynn Devou won the 100-meter dash and tied for first in the 200-meter dash, while Becca Greenlee was fourth in the 3,200.
