BRUNSWICK — To educate students on the history, missions and contributions of the space program, who better to speak than a man who viewed the shuttle launches from Mission Control for years?
Edward Polewarczyk will visit St. John Catholic School, located on 37 Pleasant St., on Friday, May 2, for special presentations at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The presentations will include a description of a typical shuttle flight, his experiences working on missions, and the contributions the space program has made on society.
Polewarczyk is the former director of Orbiter Production and Operations for United Space Alliance. He joined the space shuttle team in 1974 and was promoted to Mission Control at Johnson Space Center in Texas in 1993, where he served as an engineer and as a systems supervisor before assuming the director’s role in 2004.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
