WATERBORO — Biddeford scored five runs in the eighth inning to beat Massabesic 13-9 in an SMAA softball game on Wednesday.

The Mustangs had taken a 7-2 lead heading into the fifth, but the Tigers responded with five in the inning to tie the game. Biddeford then took a one-run lead in the sixth, but Massabesic tied it back up at 7-7 with a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

Kirsten Lebreux relieved Abbie Paquette in the fifth inning and picked up the win for the Tigers (2-1), which got three hits and two runs scored from Erin Martin.

Alex Staples and Abby Greenleaf both had two hits for the Mustangs (2-2).

Sanford 4, Portland 0

SANFORD — The Sanford Spartans broke a scoreless tie with a three-run fifth inning and added an insurance run in the sixth to defeat Portland 4-0 in an SMAA softball game at Witham Street Field on Wednesday.

Jen Jones went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple to pace the Sanford (3-1) offense, and struck out 14 batters against zero walks in seven innings to earn the win on the mound. Emily Begin also collected two hits, including a double, as the Spartans matched the Bulldogs (0-3) hit-for-hit with seven apiece.

Fryeburg Academy 14, Wells 0

WELLS — Kylie Locke hit for the cycle and knocked in six RBIs as Fryeburg Academy beat Wells in a Western Maine Conference softball game on Wednesday.

The Raiders scored three runs apiece in the first and second innings, and got two in the fourth, two in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Sarah Harriman pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and also hit a two-run homer at the plate, while Jeanette White added four hits and three RBIs for the Raiders (2-1). Lauren Bame allowed 16 hits in a complete game for Wells (2-1).

Girls Lacrosse

Kennebunk 8, Greely 3

NORTH YARMOUTH — Six different players scored and Bella Kudas made 14 saves in front of a solid defense as Kennebunk beat Greely in a Western Maine Conference girls lacrosse game on Wednesday night.

Carly Sandler opened the scoring for the Rams with a free position goal, followed by Olivia Sanford two minutes later. Goals from Sandler, Jenny Bush and two by Kyra Schwartzman followed before Hely Fecko scored in the final minute to give the Rams (2-0) a 7-2 lead over the Rangers (0-1) at the half.

Allie Truman scored in the second half for Kennebunk, which won 85 percent of the draws thanks to Bush’s work in the draw circle.

Gould Academy 13, Wells 7

BETHEL — Gould Academy (2-1) topped Wells in a Class B girls lacrosse game on Wednesday afternoon.

Hailey Smith led the Warriors with two goals, while Nicki Moody scored twice. Cassidy Healy made 11 saves for Wells (1-1).

Boys Tennis

Thornton Academy 5, South Portland 0

SOUTH PORTLAND — Thornton Academy picked up its second sweep in as many days and didn’t drop a set in the process against South Portland in an SMAA boys tennis match on Wednesday afternoon.

Golden Trojans’ No. 1 Victor Menezes topped Ian Mitchell 6-1, 6-1, while David Parran beat Tyler Gagne 6-4, 6-3 and Jared Waterhouse got the better of Rowan Varga 6-3, 6-1 in the other singles match.

In the doubles, Thornton’s No. 1 pairing of Will Caras and Eric Gooch beat Taylor Miller and Chril Freely 6-1, 6-1, while Dylan Gooch and Simon Belliveau downed Eric Canfield and Thom Hodgkins 6-1, 6-2.
