Sterling conversation leaked by 3rd party
LOS ANGELES (AP) — An attorney representing the woman Donald Sterling was talking to when he made racist remarks said the hour-long conversation was taped by mutual agreement last September and provided to a friend for safekeeping, who leaked it to TMZ.
V. Stiviano sent two snippets of the conversation, recorded in her Los Angeles duplex, to a friend who released them without her permission, lawyer Siamak Nehoray said. He would not identify the friend.
L.A. NAACP president resigns
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The president of the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP resigned following outrage over a decision he later reversed to give Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling an award for promoting civil rights.
Leon Jenkins was to honor Sterling later this month, but rescinded that offer Monday after a recording surfaced over the weekend on which Sterling disparaged black men.
Ravens’ Rice pleads not guilty
MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) — Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice pleaded not guilty to assault charges stemming from an incident with his then-girlfriend in an Atlantic City casino elevator. His lawyer said Rice is “ashamed” and “sorry” about his conduct but would not specify exactly what Rice did.
