BATH — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade softball team came out victorious with a hardearned 3-2 win over Bath in eight innings on Monday.
Bath’s Marissa Parks struck out 22 batters with four walks. Mt. Ararat’s Morgan Johnson had eight strikeouts and walked six.
There was no score until the third inning when Mt. Ararat scored its first run. Kate Graeff started off with a walk and reached home on a steal and an overthrow to make it 1-0.
Bath scored a run each in the third and fourth innings to take the lead at 2-1.
In the top of the seventh inning, Johnson scored on Kayleigh Temple’s hit to tie the game.
In the extra inning, Isabella Benner singled, stole second and reached third on a passed ball. Zoe Stilphen doubled to right field to score Benner to reclaim the lead.
The visitors played solid defense in the bottom half of the inning to preserve the win. Shortstop Stilphen made two catches and Kelsey Scannevin made the final play on a grounder to second and a nice throw to Benner at first to end the game.
Temple and Graeff were standouts behind the plate and Natalie Ormsby made some nice plays in center field.
The Eagles are now 2-0 and play in Auburn on Thursday.
