JSMS Fundraiser
The Jordan-Small Middle School eighth-grade class is sponsoring a supper on Friday, May 9, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. prior to the seventh- and eighth-grade Dress Up Dance which begins at 7 p.m. The community is invited to the dinner includes choice of hamburger, cheeseburger or hot dog, mac and cheese, drink and ice cream dessert. Cost for supper only is $5. Seventh- and eighth-grade students who attend both events pay only $10 total!
Raymond Roads Cleanup Project
The town of Raymond needs you to help in the second annual Raymond Roads Cleanup Project. On Saturday, May 24, volunteers will meet from 9 a.m.-noon at the Raymond Village Community Church at 27 Main St. Teams will work the roadways collecting trash and debris in an effort to create a more desirable community for Raymond residents and tourists. Extended Library Hours and Days
The Raymond Village Library will now be open four days a week. Starting Thursday, May 1, the new hours will be:
Sunday – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Monday – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday – 2 to 7 p.m.
Project Graduation Fundraiser
The Project Graduation committee for RSU 14 is raffling a pair of tickets to a Red Sox/Yankees game held on Aug. 3. The seats are located in right field box 95, row JJ. Second through fifth prizes will include four tickets to a Sea Dogs game this summer. Tickets are $10 a chance and the drawing will be held on June 2. Project Graduation funds a chemical-free 24-hour party for the graduates from Windham High School. Please email Beth Nadeau at [email protected].
Using an E-reader
On Monday, May 12, at 1 p.m. Jared Leadbetter from the Maine State Library will be at the Raymond Village Library to demonstrate e-books. If you have recently purchased an e-reader or have had one for a while and would like to learn how to do more with it, please sign up at the library for “The Petting Zoo” training. Several e-books will be available in the library through May 19 on loan from the state library for patrons to try out. Maine Author To Speak
Paul Doiron is the author of the Mike Bowditch series of crime novels. His first book, “The Poacher’s Son,” won the Barry Award and the Strand Critics Award for Best First Novel and was nominated for an Edgar Award, an Anthony Award, a Macavity Award, and a Thriller Award. PopMatters named it one of the best works of fiction of 2010. His second novel, “Trespasser,” was an American Booksellers Association Indie Bestseller and won the Maine Literary Award. The fifth book in the series, “The Bone Orchard,” will be published on July 15. His novels have been translated into 10 languages. Paul is editor emeritus of Down East: The Magazine of Maine, having served as editor in chief from 2005-2013. A native of Maine, he attended Yale University and holds an MFA in creative writing from Emerson College. He is a Registered Maine Guide specializing in fly-fishing and lives on a trout stream in coastal Maine. Paul will be at the Raymond Village Library on Monday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m.
A book signing will follow his presentation, and Sherman Book and Stationery Store in Portland will have copies of his novels for purchase at this event. This program is free and open to the public. Drop by the Raymond Village Library on Wednesday, May 14, at 6 p.m to share your craft. Crochet, knit, cardmaking, plastic canvas, sewing, painting – whatever your craft please go and craft with RVL!
