LISBON — After combing through the Lisbon Historical
Society archives and their own private collections, long-time Society members Charles Plummer and Merton Ricker have discovered and restored many historic photos of barely remembered places from Lisbon’s past. Their May presentation for the Society will feature many of their finds, beginning at the old Crooked Bridge site in Lewiston and then journeying south through the three villages of the Town of Lisbon.
Few of today’s residents may be able to recall Peppermint Corner, the Coodle, Frost Park, Cowing’s Tavern, and Pine Grove Park. These places and many others will be brought to life in old restored photos, spiced with stories and tales from Plummer and Ricker in their travelogue from the past.
The presentation takes place on Wednesday, May 14, at the Lisbon Historical Society rooms in the MTM Center on School Street in Lisbon Falls. The meeting is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program follows a brief business meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Parking and entrance are at the rear of the building. We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
