DAYTON — Rev. G. Franklyn Sturdevant, 92, of Waterhouse Road, passed away May 10, 2014 at his residence.

He was born in Norwalk, Conn. June 16, 1921, the son of George W. and Dorothea Brugge Sturdevant.

Franklyn graduated from Norwalk High School. He then graduated from Aurora College with a bachelor’s degree in theology.

He was ordained to the Advent Christian Ministry in East Norwalk, Conn. in 1945.

He first served in Mann’s Creek, Idaho, Westfield, Mass. and Kansas City, Kan., and then went to Goodwin’s Mills in 1970. Rev. Sturdevant remained at The Goodwin’s Mills Advent Christian Church until he retired in 1987 and became of the minister of visitation. While at the Goodwin’s Mills church, he was active in the choir and taught Sunday School.

Franklyn, throughout his many years of service, was involved in leadership positions in the regional and

state conference.

He enjoyed writing poetry, songs and doing crossword puzzles.

He was preceded in death by: his wife of 62 years, Jane Nankervis Sturdevant in 2009.

Survivors include: a son, David Sturdevant of Cape Elizabeth; two daughters, Ruth Smith and Nancy Sturdevant, both of Dayton; two grandchildren, Sharon and Susan; three great-grandchildren, Fred, Jason and Andrew; a sister-in-law, Janet Nankervis; a niece, Patty; and a nephew, Craig.

Friends and relatives may call on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Goodwin’s Mills Advent Christian Church, 498 Goodwin’s Mills Road, Dayton, ME 04005. Rev. Nick Foss will officiate. Burial will follow at Goodwin’s Mills Cemetery.
