BIDDEFORD — Abbie Paquette drove in the winning run with a double in the bottom of the seventh to send Biddeford to a walk-off win over Cheverus in an SMAA softball game at Doran Field in Biddeford on Tuesday.

Paquette was one of three Biddeford players with multiple hits, as Erin Martin had a pair of hits, and Brittany Roy tallied three, including a double.

Paquette earned the win after giving up eight hits over seven innings, holding the Stags scoreless until the top of the seventh inning.

Brittany Bell took the loss for Cheverus.

KENNEBUNK 3, FRYEBURG 2

KENNEBUNK — Jenna Kuun won on a tiebreaker in the third set at No. 2 singles, and Laura Haddad won in straight sets in No. 1 singles as host Kennebunk topped Fryeburg 3-2 in a Western Maine Conference girls tennis match at Kennebunk High School on Tuesday.

Kuun took the first set against Morgan Billard-Hodges, then dropped the second before winning on the fourth tiebreaker for a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 match win.

Haddad defeated Fryeburg’s Chelsea Abraham 6-3, 6-3 in No. 1 singles.

Kennebunk’s No. 2 doubles team of Asia Kea and Kylee Solari won its match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, while the No. 1 doubles team of Lindsey Hatch and Hannah Ingham fell in three sets.

CHEVERUS 4, SANFORD 1

SANFORD — Cheverus continued its unbeaten start to the regular season, as the Stags went on the road to top Sanford 4-1 in an SMAA girls tennis match on Tuesday.

The Stags dropped a singles match for the first time this season, however, as Sanford’s Misa Mai won a first set tiebreaker to beat Jessica Soucy in straight sets in No. 2 singles.

The Stags won the rest of the matches in straight sets, as Kathryn Doiron, Paige Tranchemontagne, the No. 1 doubles team of Ciara Negron and Lauren MacPherson, and the No. 2 doubles team of Alley Nichols and Lauren Vachon all fell for the Spartans.

Boys Tennis

THORNTON 3, WINDHAM 2

SACO — Victor Menezes was dominant in No. 1 singles, and both doubles teams won in straight sets as Thornton Academy (7-0) edged Windham (5-2) 3-2 in an SMAA boys tennis match at Thornton Academy on Tuesday.

Menezes dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Windham’s Jordan Crowley.

The Trojans’ No. 2 doubles team of Dylan Gooch and Simon Belliveau also dropped just one game in a straight-set victory, while Will Caras and Eric Gooch earned a 6-4, 6-1 decision in No. 1 doubles.

The Eagles won in both No. 2 and No. 3 singles, as Dan Cancelarich topped David Parran 6-4, 6-4, and Jarron Nadeau rallied for a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 win over Jared Waterhouse.

Baseball

MARSHWOOD 6, MASSABESIC 4

WATERBORO — Massabesic rallied back after giving up three runs in the top of the first inning, but the Mustangs couldn’t hold on, as Marshwood scored three more runs in the top of the seventh to win 6-4 in an SMAA baseball game at Massabesic High School on Tuesday.

Zack Quintal, Zack Hodges and Noah McDaniel all scored runs in the top of the first to stake the Hawks to a 3-0 lead.

The Mustangs cut the lead to one with single runs in the first and fifth. Massabesic then took a brief lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-RBI single by Tyler Everett, who led the Mustangs with three hits in the game.

The Hawks tied the game up in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Jake Lebel, then two RBI singles gave Marshwood a lead it didn’t relinquish.

Girls Lacrosse

SOUTH PORTLAND 5, SANFORD 3

SANFORD — South Portland came out on top against host Sanford 5-3 in an SMAA girls lacrosse on Tuesday that matched two teams battling to get into the Western Class a playoff picture.

The Spartans got goals from Brenna Lambert, Courtney Dumont and Monica Trausch.
