BRUNSWICK — The Howard Vandersea/Maine Chapter of the National Football Foundation has announced the 20 recipients for its 27th annual Scholar-Athlete awards.
The selection committee chose 18 high school standouts, one prep school and one collegiate representative.
For the first time, thanks to a generous gift from the Alfond Foundation, each high school honoree will receive a $500 scholarship from the Mac-Huard Fund to support their higher education endeavors.
The award winners will be honored at a banquet at Bowdoin College’s Thorne Hall on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Tickets for the banquet are $30, and the general public is invited to attend.
For ticket information, contact Vandersea at 729-4210.
Among the honorees are Brunswick’s Lucas McCue and Joshua Thibeault.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
