BATH — For the 17th straight year Bath has been named a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation. City Arborist, Tom Hoerth, will accept the award for the City at a Maine Forest Service celebration in Farmington on May 20th. On Wednesday, May 21st the Bath Community Forestry Committee will award its annual Landscape Awards. This year’s business award will be presented to William Gannon of Burger King at 2 p.m. At 3 p.m. the Committee will present the residential award to Carolyn Lockwood at 773 High Street.

The BCFC will also conduct two tree planting events during Arbor week. The first event will occur at the Customs House on Thursday, May 22 between noon and 2 p.m. Following that planting Hoerth will replace a city tree that was damaged and removed this winter. While the tree plantings are taking place, students from Morse High School will be potting seedlings at the Customs House which are given to Bath by CMP every year.

On Saturday, May 24th a “Pruning Technique Clinic” will be led by Hoerth at Bath City Hall in the downstairs basement conference room from 9 a.m. – noon. The workshop will focus on spring and summer tree care techniques and the tools required for pruning trees. The workshop is free and open to the public.
