WHITE LAKE, N.C. — Military personnel and sheriff’s deputies in eastern North Carolina are searching for a Marine who apparently fell from an aircraft.

Officials say the Marine fell from an Osprey aircraft during a training mission around 7 p.m. Monday near White Lake. It wasn’t immediately clear how the Marine fell from the aircraft, which can take off like a helicopter and fly like an airplane.

The Marine’s name hasn’t been released. The aircraft was based a Marine Corps Air Station New River.

Spokesmen for the Marines and the Bladen County sheriff’s office did not immediately return messages left Tuesday morning.
