ON A RECENT rainy Saturday morning, 10 students in Freeport High School’s Interact Club, a service-oriented student group sponsored by the Freeport Rotary Club, gathered to volunteer their time, helping to build Habitat for Humanity’s Hummingbird Lane subdivision. “They showed up at 8:30 a.m. on a miserable rainy day,” said Dede Bennell, the FHS Serivce Learning coordinator. “There was a lot of enthusiasm,” and though the school year is wrapping up now, Bennell said students would have many opportunites to volunteer next year.
