SANFORD — Xavier Chase and Eddie Michetti both drove in runs with singles in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Spartans walked off win a win 5-4 over the Scots in an SMAA baseball game on Saturday.
After the Scots (2-10) took a 4-0 lead thanks to a three-run fourth inning, the Spartans’ Tyler Flayhan relieved starter Brandon Wambolt and pitched three shutout innings to close the game and pick up the victory.
Chase Eldedge and Jed Scott had a double and a single each for Sanford (5-7), which scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth to get back in the game.
Massabesic 9, Cheverus 5
WATERBORO — Massabesic scored four runs in the first inning and four more in the fifth to beat Cheverus (7-5) in an SMAA baseball game on Saturday.
Remi Gaetjens helped the Mustangs (4-9) get off to a good start with a two-RBI single in the first, while Matt Allen keyed the fifth with an RBI single of his own.
Boys Lacrosse
Biddeford 4, St. Dominc’s 3
BIDDEFORD — Biddeford outscored St. Dom’s 3-2 in the second half to take a one-goal victory in an inter-class boys lacrosse game on Monday at Waterbouse Field.
After the Saints (3-5) took a 1-0 lead after one quarter, Biddeford (4-4) tied the game in the second quarter on a Kyle Rhames goal to make it 1-1 at the half.
St. Dom’s went back ahead in the third, but three unanswered goals from Chipper Trottier, Patrick Ruck and Cody Sevigny gave the Tigers a 4-2 lead, an advantage they would hold on to despite a late Saints goal with two minutes to play.
