DELAWARE, Ohio — Bowdoin College sophomore Jacob Ellis collected his second All-American award of the year by placing third in the 800-meter finals at the NCAA Division III Championships Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan.

Ellis stayed with the lead group for the entire race, and it came down to the final stretch, as the top three runners were less than threefourths of a second apart. Ellis, who finished in 1:51.37, was edged at the line by Andrew Carey of Johns Hopkins (1:50.62) and Mitchell Black of Tufts and Brunswick (1:51.30).

It is the highest finish in a nationals race for Ellis, who also earned All-American honors in the winter when he finished fifth in the indoor 800 at NCAA’s. This spring’s result is also an improvement on last year’s race when he finished fifth in the 800 at outdoor NCAA’s.

Record for Carvajal

In the women’s heptathlon, Addison Carvajal also posted a school record total of 4,694 points and finished 10th in the 22-competitor field, just missing out on All-American honors. Carvajal’s top performance was in the high jump, where she finished in a tie for third among the entrants.

Silva, Harmon

Bowdoin also enjoyed other standout showings at the NCAAs, including a pair of All-American performances.

In her final collegiate event, senior Katherine Harmon placed eighth in the hammer throw, while junior Erin Silva took fourth in the pole vault as both earned All-American honors for the second consecutive season.

Harmon’s second throw was the best of her career, and established a school record, with a distance of 175-11 to place eighth in the field. Harmon, who entered the field seeded 16th, dramatically improving her final position and besting her own school mark of 172-06.

Silva also broke her own school record, clearing a personal best of 12-07.50 to place fourth and earn All-American recognition. Silva was seeded 10th in the nation heading into nationals and shattered her previous mark 12-03.75.
