Burton Tupper “Burt” Sweet, 73, died Friday, May 23, 2014, at his home in Winchester, Va., after a long illness.

Burt was born in 1940, in Durham, Maine. He was greatly loved by his parents, the late Robert W. and Sarah Aura Sweet. He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Blockade. Burt’s love for people made him a master at his profession in menswear sales. He retired in 1993 due to injuries he received during his service in the U.S. Navy. Following his retirement, he moved Virginia.

Burton enjoyed close friendship and fellowship with his brother and sisterin law, Bob and Joy Sweet of Strasburg, Va. Bob and Burt loved riding motorcycles together, from Indians to Harleys, from their teens to their seventies! His nieces and nephews, Robert Sweet III of Harrisburg, N.C.; Karen Jacobson of Lynchburg, Va.; Sherri Jaso of Gilroy, Calif.; Carol Anderson of Indian Trail, N.C.; John Sweet of Warrenton, Va.; and 29 great nieces and nephews will never forget their “Uncle Burt.” He was greatly loved by his family and many friends. He will be missed by his many Tupper and Sweet cousins whom he has remained close to since childhood. His younger brother, Carroll E. Sweet, preceded him in death in 1968.

His faith in Jesus was evident to all who knew him. The following quotation, found in his own handwriting, was one of his favorites:

“Forgiveness heals all wounds.”
