Believe it or not, it’s time to think postseason.

The tennis singles tournament is in full swing with the team postseason set to commence. Track will host its conference championships this weekend with the state meets looming June 7. While baseball, softball and boys’ and girls’ lacrosse are still playing, the end is in sight for those sports as well.

Here’s a look at what’s transpired and what’s to come:

Baseball

Morse’s baseball team was 9-3 and fifth in the Western Class B Heal Points standings at press time. The Shipbuilders were 12-1 winners at Leavitt last Wednesday. After playing host to Oceanside Tuesday and at Erskine Wednesday, Morse is home against Gardiner Friday and closes the regular season Monday at Lincoln.

In Eastern A, Brunswick is still battling for a playoff spot. The Dragons were 6-6 and eighth (nine teams make the postseason) after a 1-0 win over Skowhegan and an 8-7 loss to Messalonskee. Brunswick was home with Mt. Blue Wednesday and played a makeup game at Mt. Ararat Thursday, visits Oxford Hills Friday and closes Monday at home versus Bangor.

Mt. Ararat was 2-10 and 13th after a 7-4 home win over Messalonskee, a 3-0 loss at Skowhegan and a 12-2 setback at Lawrence. After playing at Lewiston Wednesday and hosting Brunswick Thursday, the Eagles go to Mt. Blue Friday and welcome Oxford Hills Monday.

Softball

No softball teams would make the playoffs if they began today.

Morse was 3-9 and 13th in Western B (only 10 teams qualify) at press time. The Shipbuilders were coming off a 13-0 loss at Leavitt. After playing host to Oceanside Tuesday and at Erskine Wednesday, Morse is home against Gardiner Friday and closes the regular season Monday at Lincoln.

In Eastern A, Mt. Ararat was 11th at 2-10 (but only nine teams make the cut) after a 16-0 home loss to Messalonskee, an 8-0 setback at Skowhegan and an 8-7 loss at Lawrence. After playing at Lewiston Wednesday and hosting Brunswick Thursday, the Eagles go to Mt. Blue Friday and welcome Oxford Hills Monday.

Brunswick was 0-12 and 13th at press time. The Dragons were coming off a 26-0 home loss to Skowhegan and a 14-2 setback at Messalonskee. Brunswick was home with Mt. Blue Wednesday and played a makeup game at Mt. Ararat Thursday, visits Oxford Hills Friday and closes Monday at home versus Bangor.

Boys’ lacrosse

Brunswick’s boys’ lacrosse team remains atop Eastern Class A with an 8-2 record following wins over visiting Edward Little (15-7) and host Messalonskee (12-11) last week. The Dragons host Mt. Ararat Friday and close the regular season at Morse Monday.

Mt. Ararat was fourth in Eastern A at 7-3 after a 7-5 home loss to Cony last week. The Eagles go to Brunswick Friday, then finish at Gardiner Tuesday.

Morse was third behind Maranacook/Winthrop and Yarmouth in Eastern B with an 8-1 mark following an 11-5 victory at St. Dom’s. The Shipbuilders go to Oak Hill Friday and play host to Brunswick Monday.

Girls’ lacrosse

Morse’s girls’ lacrosse team 7-1 and third behind Yarmouth and Freeport in the Eastern B Heals after a 20-4 home win over Lincoln and a 15-10 home victory over Camden Hills. The Shipbuilders were at Gardiner Tuesday, hosted Oceanside Thursday, go to Bonny Eagle Saturday and close at Lincoln Wednesday.

Mt. Ararat was sixth in Eastern A with a 4-5 mark following a 15-3 home win over Edward Little and a 15-11 loss at Messalonskee. The Eagles were were home against Brunswick Wednesday, host Cony Friday and go to Edward Little Wednesday in the finale.

Brunswick was clinging the to eighth and final Eastern A playoff spot with a 4-4 mark at press time. The Dragons were coming off losses at Messalonskee (16-7) and at home to South Portland (8-7, in overtime) and a 14-5 victory over visiting Edward Little. Brunswick was at Mt. Ararat Wednesday and Lewiston Thursday, hosts Oxford Hills Saturday, then closes at powerhouse Yarmouth Monday.

Track

The Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championship meet will be held Saturday at Morse.

Tennis

Brunswick’s two-time defending Class A champion girls’ tennis team will be the top seed for the upcoming Eastern A playoffs. The Dragons took an 11-0 record into their finale, against Lewiston Tuesday. Mt. Ararat will likely be the third or fourth seed. The Eagles were 8-3 heading into their finale Wednesday at Oxford Hills.  In Western B, Morse was seventh at 5-5 heading into its finale against Lincoln.

On the boys’ side, Brunswick was second to Bangor in the Eastern A Heals heading into its finale Wednesday against Lewiston. Mt. Ararat was fifth after completing a 7-5 regular season with a 5-0 victory over Cony. In Western B, Morse was third behind Cape Elizabeth and Yarmouth at 7-3 heading into its finale versus Lincoln.

The team playoffs begin with the preliminary round Tuesday. The quarterfinals are Thursday and the semifinals June 7, with all matches being played on the home courts of the higher seeds. The Eastern A Finals are June 10 at Colby College in Waterville, while the Western B Finals are June 12 at Bates College in Lewiston. The state matches are Saturday, June 14, at Bates.

The singles tournament resumes Friday and Saturday at Colby and the final four and championship rounds will be held Monday at Bates. Brunswick’s Maisie Silverman is ranked second among the girls, while teammate Ali Stankiewicz is ninth. Mt. Ararat’s Nick Mathieu is seeded fourth in the boys’ tournament.
