SANFORD — Mildred Ethel Bennett, 79 years, died peacefully May 28, 2014 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.

Mildred was born Jan. 3, 1935 in Kennebunk, a daughter of Wesley L. and Louisa (Mathews) Jackson Sr.

She attended local schools and married Frederick E. Bennett on Oct. 16, 1952.

Mildred enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and a good game of Scrabble, but it was her family that she loved the most. As a stay-at-home mom, she enjoyed raising her family, but then realized the joys of being a grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Frederick; and her sister, Norma Smith.

Mildred is lovingly remembered and sorely missed by: her three sons, Wesley Jackson and his wife Charlene of Kennebunk, Fred Bennett and his wife Darlene of Waterboro and George Bennett and his companion Michelle of Sanford; her three daughters, Frances Staley and her husband Jeffrey of Lebanon, Cheryl Bennett of Old Orchard Beach and Tina LaRose and her husband Don of Sanford; her brothers, Wesley L. Jackson Jr., Alan Jackson and Cecil Jackson; her sisters, Mary Dehetre, Loraine Barrieau, Joan Alley and Denise Nolan; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit on Monday, June 2 from 2-4 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, ME 04043. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 4 p.m. at the chapel, celebrated by Rev. Burton Howe. Interment will take place at a later date at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
